Seminar 31.1.2017: "The World Expos for promoting Finnish science, art and exports"
Finpro will organize a Suomi 100 seminar, 31th January 2017 at 14:00 – 17:00. Finland has participated in the World Expos for more than a hundred years! The World Expo has played an important role for independent Finland in building international identity and showcasing Finnish innovations and architecture, science and art globally.
The nature of the World Expos has changed and the importance increased over time. Shanghai World Expo in 2010 was the largest in the history - Dubai World Expo 2020 is becoming even bigger. The era of world expos is not over!
Architecturally unique pavilions
Finnish pavilion presents Finland and its society to the world. Architecturally unique Finnish pavilions in world expos have attracted international attention and received numerous awards.
Finland will participate in Astana Expo 2017 in Kazakhstan from 10th June to 10th September as the only Nordic country. The exhibition concept for the Finnish pavilion is designed by Ateljé Sotamaa, whose most recent design works were Fazerila visiting center and the design concept of restaurant Finnjävel.
The benefit of World Expos for companies
The benefit of World Expos to participating companies has been significant. The number of companies participating in the Shanghai World Expo was over 80, which was the greatest number of all times.
After the Shanghai Expo the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment conducted a survey to identify the benefits companies had gained. The main motivation for participation was to increase the awareness and to improve the image of participating companies and public organizations, as well as to improve the Finland’s country image. Most of companies participating the Shanghai expo supported participation in Expos also in future.
Finland will participate in Astana EXPO 2017 "Future Energy"
Kazakhstan is a central hub for Central Asian countries and
an increasingly important transit point between Europe and Asia along the new
Silk Road. Kazakhstan has made significant progress towards
economy and has achieved considerable results in its efforts to attract foreign
investment. Although vast oil, gas and mineral reserves continue to form the
backbone of Kazakhstan’s economy, the country is striving to create a green
Finland's participation in the EXPO 2017 plays an important
role in terms of political relations between our two countries. Astana Expo
project strengthens the visibility of Finland in Kazakhstan and its neighboring
countries. Participation at Astana EXPO 2017 offers all Finnish companies an
excellent platform to present competences and to strengthen their business
operations in Kazakhstan and Central Asian markets.
